“I’m Yusuf Umut. People usually ask which one I actually use — Yusuf or Umut?
I tell them I don’t really like either of them, so I use both.
My grandfather insisted on Yusuf: ‘a prophet’s name, may it bring blessings.’
My mother wanted Umut: ‘hope.’
So here I am — Yusuf Umut.”
Yusuf Umut tells the story of a young man who is running toward a freedom he can’t quite define, yet cannot abandon.
But can this undefined sense of freedom finally carry him toward belonging — freeing him from fold-out couches, rules, and limits?
Let’s also ask from here:
What will become of Yusuf Umut?
